Juniors Classes
Suitable for dogs older than about 4 1/2 months of age, Juniors
is aimed both at owners who have previously attended puppy class
or those who have not attended formal training before and is geared
to dogs under 2 years of age (although dogs older than this do sometimes
attend). In these classes dogs learn good manners and a variety
of commands including Sit, Down, Stay, Leave, Give, and recall (Come),
as well as not jumping up or pulling on the lead. Classes are structured
so that near beginners and improvers (ie those who have attended
puppy class before) can exist in the same class, and all exercises
can be made easier or more challenging depending each dog's ability.
For dogs with behavioural problems, such as aggression towards
other dogs or people, separation anxiety or phobias, a behavioural
consultation may be required before attendance at a class is possible.
From 1 January 2011, Juniors classes cost £80 for a six-week
course. Courses are held at 7.15pm on Monday nights on a rolling
basis, with some daytime courses held at 2pm on Mondays. All courses
are currently held in Shillingstone, between Blandford Forum and
Sturminster Newton. See course start dates
for dates of the next daytime or evening course, or to download
booking forms or to book and pay online. Unless otherwise stated,
classes run for six consecutive weeks, excluding the 2nd Monday
of each month (when the hall is used for something else). Normal
maximum class size is 8, although 9 may occasionally be accepted.
Classes are always full and usually fill up a month or so before
the start date.
